MARANATHA Christian High School (MCHS) let their students run the show at their 7th Annual Speech and Prize Giving Day held last weekend.
A first of its kind, the pupils took care of everything, from the hosting to the photography. The rare nature of the concept impressed the guests as it showed the vision and aims of MCHS, which seeks to empower pupils for all their different aspirations and goals.
The event was hosted by Honourable Junior Counsellor Nicole Chimanikire and Collin Khanye, who were exceptionally confident. Devotions were led by Tadiwa Chiware, an Upper Six student. Students were recognised for academic excellence, sports, entrepreneurship and smartness. The most disciplined student received a laptop sponsored by Maranatha Team Ministries. The overall best academic student received the Sharon-Rose Chisango Shield.
Pupils’ presentations were exhilarating – ranging from inspirational speeches to French role play “Un sourie”, which taught those in attendance the importance of smiling. Speaking at the Speech and Prize Giving Day, the Warren Park/Mabelreign District Schools Inspector Mr Mupunza said he was impressed by the level of talent the pupils showcased. Mrs Mabel Gunda, head marketing and communications at Higherlife Foundation, was the guest of honour.
“It is a privilege to serve as a guest of honour at Maranatha Christian High Prize Giving Day and bear witness to the impressive achievement of this institution that has made great strides over the past few years, and is poised to achieve even more in the future,” she said.
In her speech, she touched on not having fear, following one’s dreams, not tying your dreams to other people’s aspirations and catching every opportunity when it avails itself.
“Make the best of every opportunity the school offers you,” she said.
She even gave a personal example of how she had a chance to be part of the multi-billion dollar empire now known as Facebook, but she passed it up, thinking it would not go far. Her speech inspired pupils and empowered them with entrepreneurial ideas, which is one of the visions of MCHS. The school principal Mrs Muridzo added that the spirit of excellence prevails at MCHS.
“Indeed MCHS is a resource centre for learners,” she said, reinforcing her statement with the school theme scripture, “ . . . those who know their God well shall be strong and do exploits.”
Some of the pupils who were awarded with prizes could not hide their excitement and thanked the school authorities for the honour.
“I am so happy to have won the overall best award for my level,” said Kirsty Tahuona, a Form Two pupil. It was an emotional moment when the outgoing head girl delivered her valedictory speech. She expressed gratitude to the Maranatha family for supporting her throughout her tenure. It was a historical event graced by the chief executive officer Dr Mudavanhu and Mrs Mudavanhu, parents and corporate partners. Life at MCHS will never be the same again. To God be all the glory.
