People with disabilities have received inputs under the climate proofed Presidential Pfumvudza/Intwasa Inputs Scheme with distribution intensifying to ensure timely planting.
So far, thousands of people with disabilities have benefited under the programme.
Chairman of the National Disability Dialogue Mr Gift Mabhaudhi hailed the Government for ensuring that they were included and catered for in development programmes saying Pfumvudza inputs had seen families becoming food secure.
He said Government had extended the role of people living with disabilities in the quest to develop the nation.
“We are happy that Government has realised that we have the capacity to work and produce meaningful results like other able-bodied people. We are very grateful for this support and very soon we are going to receive fertilisers,” he said.
The Government had made positive strides towards creating an inclusive society that recognised the rights of people with disabilities, including opening up opportunities for them in empowerment programmes.
Last year people living with disabilities received food assistance from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC).
The attainment of an upper middle income society, as envisaged by Vision 2030, required the contribution of everyone in society.
Statistics from Deaf Women Included (DWI) reveal that at least 96 percent of women and girls with disabilities have experienced sexual violence during the lockdown period.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates, 10 percent of Zimbabwe’s total population is disabled.
