HARARE-based Bulawayo comedian, Nqobizitha “Q The Boss” Dube, seems to be reaping benefits from his craft following his recent performance in the United States.
His dream of getting to the top of comedy and emulate reputable acts in the form of Trevor Noah and Richard Pryor, is coming to fruition as evidenced by his performance in America.
Breaking into the American comedy scene is not easy but Q The Boss, who has been in that country for close to a month, says the reception he received from audiences was overwhelming considering that it was his debut appearance.
“The response was good and I believe my comedy acts can take me far. Everyday is a learning experience for me,” Q The Boss said.
The comedian, who is inspired by Carl Joshua Ncube, said the only challenge was to adapt to the American style of comedy.
“I had to change my style of comedy when I got here as the comedy is in your face. I’ve held shows in Indiana and Kentucky and I’m expecting to stage a show in New York, then Texas.”
The Q The Boss’ tour to the US has seen him rub shoulders with internationally renowned comedians like MTV host — William “Bill” Bellamy and US-based Zimbabwean comedian Alfred Kainga.
“Bill Bellamy was cool and humble. I learnt a lot from him,” Q The Boss said.
The comedian, who is not sure when he will return home, said the tour afforded him an opportunity to showcase his skills on American stages.
He thanked fellow Zimbabwean comedians, Michael K, Alfred Kainga, Edgar Langeveldt, Ncube for equipping him with skills.
