FOUR friends from Mkoba suburb, including a Gweru Polytechnic student, have been arrested for allegedly gang raping an 18-year-old police officer’s wife following a beer binge on Christmas Day.
Adorable Chikwama and Shepherd Murindi both 18, Simbarashe Zvandikona, 20, and Erigh Tayedza, 25, who is studying Motor Mechanics at Gweru Polytechnic College all from Mkoba Village 20 in Gweru appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing rape charges.
The quartet was not asked to plead.
They were remanded in custody to January 12 for trial.
Prosecuting Daniel Tafuma told the court that on Christmas Day, Chikwama, Murindi, Zvandikona and Tayedza went to a party at a house in Mkoba Village 20, Gweru.
The court heard how the quartet and the complainant were drinking alcoholic beverages.
“Chikwama took advantage of the complainant (name withheld to protect her identify) who was drunk and dragged her to a secluded place and had sexual intercourse with her on the ground without her consent,” said Tafuma.
Later, the court heard that Zvandikona and Murindi took the complainant into a broken down 15-seater Toyota Hiace minibus which was about 400 m from the venue of the party.
“The two laid the complainant on the first seat from the main door of the minibus and then took turns to have sexual intercourse with her without her consent.” Tafuma said after the act, the two left the complainant lying in the minibus and returned to the party.
The court heard they told their colleague, Tayedza, who also went and allegedly sexually abused the complainant once in the minibus without her consent.
The matter was reported to the police by a witness leading to the arrest of the four friends.
