FORMER Generations actress, Sophie Ndaba, who played the role of Queen Moroka on the once popular SABC soapie, says she has never watched the new Generations: The Legacy and does not plan to do so.
The actress, who runs an events management company here, was sacked last year together with 15 other actors for staging a strike.
As a result, show producer — Mfundi Vundla had to rewrite the script and hire a new cast.
Life for most sacked actors was never the same with some being reported to have fallen ill while others had their vehicles repossessed for failing to settle debts.
But Ndaba, who rose to fame after landing a role on Generations 21 years ago, reportedly earning R60,000 a month, says she is coping.
She had been on Generations since it first aired and was the last remaining actor from the show’s original cast.
Speaking at the Durban July on Saturday, the actress, who did her O-Levels at Roosevelt High School in Harare, said her fans would not be seeing much of her on television as she will now be more of a behind the scenes person.
“I’m using this time to advance myself doing things I’ve always wanted to do. I’m now into producing and will be working on my first telenovela which I hope to release next year,” Ndaba said.
Asked if the decision by Generations producer — Mfundi Vundla — to sack her was justified, the wedding planner and Kwazulu-Natal province tourism ambassador said: “We were simply protesting for what we thought was the right thing. It’s a pity things ended the way they did.”
On joining the new cast, Ndaba said it was a whole new ball game, saying she would likely turn the offer down, if ever it was extended to her.
“I haven’t watched the new Generations and don’t think I will. It’s not the same anymore, things have changed, the cast, show, everything. Not sure if I’d want to be a part of it,” she said.
Ndaba said she periodically visits family in Zimbabwe every six months.
