Queens Pool Academy eye another crown

ACTION reaches its climax in the Bulawayo Province Pool Association (BPPA) Premier League this weekend and all signs point to Queens Pool Academy tightening their grip on the crown once again. The defending champions have been a step ahead all season, brushing aside seasoned rivals and keeping their title charge steady right to the final stretch.

Queens have handled the pressure with ease in the City of Kings and Queens, outplaying familiar heavyweights such as Entumbane Kings, Exchange, Expandables and Raylton. They top the standings with 51 points, two clear of second-placed Entumbane. Lobengula Sharks sit third on 53 points and hold a seven-point cushion over fourth-placed Dragons.

“We have had a fantastic 2025 season. We saw some fierce and competitive matches and this weekend we will have our final round of Premier League matches. That is when we will see the best of the best club claiming our floating trophy,” said BPPA publicity and marketing officer Osborne-wells Dziko.

“We would like to congratulate the teams for showing good sportsmanship as we seek to see pool, as a sport, continue being appreciated in every breath and length of the country.”

While the curtain comes down on the Premier League, the association’s Central Business District League still has two rounds to play, with the final set for November 29.

Dziko also revealed that the BPPA Cup final will be staged later this month. “The final match will see defending champions Queens Pool Academy do battle against Premier Pool Club. In a third-place playoff, Dropmark will square off against Renegades. That will put icing on our 2026 season, which ran smoothly,” said Dziko.

The semi-finals played a fortnight ago saw Queens beat Dropmark while Premier Pool Club knocked out Renegades.
“We are also greatly looking forward to the final of our BPPA Cup and the third-place playoff. These are matches that are set to attract a lot of interest after successfully hosting our BPPA Heroes Cup tournament, ZIPA Heroes Cup, Elders tournament, National referees tournament and Heyball Singles tournament. We are happy that the Bulawayo pool family has remained united, upholding the true spirit of sportsmanship,” said Dziko.

Once the BPPA Cup wraps up, attention will shift to the BPPA Champions League before the season ends with an awards ceremony on December 7 at a venue still to be confirmed.
