The confirmation of Quelaton’s pre-season preparations puts to rest widespread speculation that the club directors wanted to sell their franchise with potential buyers said to be Zimbabwe Saints and Methembe Ndlovu’s
Bantu Rovers.
The rumour mill was still rolling even after owner Tawanda Ruzive repeatedly assured the players that he would not sell the franchise and even told Chronicle Sport that Quelaton was a Bulawayo team and would remain so.
Club chairman James Rugwevera yesterday said that his club would hold trials for a few players.
Tough as teak defender Ndumiso Khanye is said to be one of the few invited for the trials.
“Our idea was that we should not bring in big names from the PSL because we already have experienced players like Njabulo Ncube, Siza Dube and Patrick “Mboma” Mpofu whose contribution has been invaluable. We believe the squad we have, blended with a few faces from lower leagues, will be able to carry the season for us,” said Rugwevera.
Some of the players that made sure Quelaton were promoted include their skipper Innocent Kutsanzira and speed merchant Kundishora Chakanyuka.
Rugwevera said they will intensify their preparations as the 2012 season kick-off date nears, and his committee will soon ask for a meeting with the Bulawayo city fathers to discuss the issue of a stadium for their home games.
Bulawayo has three PSL-approved stadia, Barbourfields, Luveve and White City.
