It never rains but pours for the family of late Big Nuz member – Sibusiso “R Mashesha” Khomo as they not only have to deal with his death and theft of precious things, but also being shown the wrong body at the mortuary. The artiste’s sister, Zonke Khomo-Mbhele, told the People’s Paper: “We got to the government mortuary in Gale Street to identify my brother’s body but it wasn’t there!
“The hospital had labelled the wrong body and released it to the mortuary. We spent hours searching for the right body.”
“We then called the hospital to find out what happened. To our surprise St Augustine’s Hospital confirmed that it had sent the wrong body to the mortuary. My brother’s body was still at the hospital,” Khomo-Mbele said.
The hospital’s general manager, Dr Augusta Dorning, said management had been in contact with the bereaved family and offered their assistance and condolences.
On Monday it was reported that the grieving family was outraged when they discovered that thieves had searched R Mashesha’s room in the family yard in Umlazi, outside Durban. They stole the popular kwaito singer’s clothes, watches, Apple laptop and PlayStation.
Yesterday afternoon, a memorial service in memory of the artiste was held at the eThekwini Community Church in Durban. The funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.
Mashesha’s death has been described as a great loss to kwaito with Afrotatinment’s boss, DJ Tira, revealing that they were struggling to deal with it.
“It’s so hard. Really, really, really hard. We’re just trying so hard to handle what has happened, accept it and just make R Mashesha proud,” Tira said.
Tira said the entire Afrotainment team had united to get behind R Mashesha’s family and pledged their support.
“We’ve never found ourselves in such a situation, but we’re trying to deal with it and it’s made us so much closer. Everyone is trying to help out and comfort each other. They’re calling us to ask how they can help and see whether we’re okay. We all just want to do what’s best for him and lay him at his last place of rest.”
He said he will always remember the Big Nuz member for his smile and sense of humour.
“Even when he’d write and record his rhymes, I’d tell him something is missing, you know, that laugh, just to complete the verse like he always does,” said Tira.
“He’d rhyme like he was talking to you. It was so easy for him. He just had a crazy flow and I’ll always miss him.”
Tira also took to social media networking site, Instagram, to post his own musical tribute to R.Mashesha. — DailySun/Channel24/Showbiz Reporter.
