RADIO Bukalanga Community Radio station`s founding manager, Ms Yvonne Buzwane, is leaving the station to take up a full time role as national coordinator of the National Association of Community Broadcasters (NACB).
She has been acting on the role since the formation of NACB.
The station, which is based in Plumtree Town broadcasts in Kalanga, IsiNdebele, Tswana, Tsao and was officially launched in December 2023.
Its coverage spans Bulilima, Mangwe, Matobo and Plumtree town.
In a statement the station`s board chairperson Ntando Dumani hailed Ms Buzwane for her outstanding leadership during her time at the stastion.
“The Board of Radio Bukalanga wishes to inform its stakeholders, listeners, partners, and the wider community that Ms Yvonne Buzwane will be concluding her tenure as station manager following the completion of her contract.” Reads the statement.
“The board extends its sincere gratitude to Ms Buzwane for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the growth and development of Radio Bukalanga since its establishment following licensing.
“Under her stewardship, the station has built a strong foundation and strengthened its role as a vital community platform serving the people of the Bukalanga region and beyond while positioning Radio Bukalanga as a model community radio in Zimbabwe” said Mr Dumani.
The board says they are preparing for the transition period, which will see Ms Buzwane rounding up her time at the station in November.
Mr Dumani said during this time, she is expected to support operational continuity, oversee key outstanding work streams and facilitate a smooth handover to the incoming station manager.
“The board is also pleased to confirm that Radio Bukalanga will continue supporting Ms Buzwane’s service as National Coordinator of the National Association of Community Broadcasters (NACB), a role through which she continues to contribute to the growth, advocacy and development of community broadcasting across Zimbabwe.
“Ms Buzwane has been performing this important role on behalf of the coordinating station since the founding of NACB,” he said.
The board said the recruitment process for a new station manager has commenced, and the board remains committed to ensuring that Radio Bukalanga continues to fulfil its mission of “amplifying community voices for community development”.
