Radnor Mine a game-changer in Mudzi District

A US$35 million gold crush and recovery plant at Radnor Mine in Makaha, Mudzi District was commissioned by President Mnangagwa in June last year.

Radnor Mine, which is a partnership between local and Chinese investors, has seen the unlocking of value from the country’s abundant gold.

The presence of Radnor Mine, which has employed hundreds of people including those from the local community, should result in the development of rural industry systems which increase the Gross Domestic Product of Mashonaland East Province.

More than US$35 million has been injected into the operations at the mine for the construction of both the largest crushing and gold recovery heap leaching plants in the country.

The investment is a demonstration of the confidence that investors have in the Second Republic’s vision to build an upper middle class economy by 2030.

“Such investments, enhanced exploration activities, the resuscitation of closed mines, opening of new mines, expansion of existing mines, and adoption of new and more efficient mining techniques are contributing to the realisation of our mining sector target of a US$12 billion mining sector by 2023,” noted President Mnangagwa at the time he commissioned the mine last year.

The President has assured investors that his Government will continue providing requisite support to their operations for increased production and productivity in the gold sub-sector and other minerals for win-win outcomes.

He also implored local mining houses to turn their products into finished intermediate products through value addition and beneficiation so that Zimbabwe could realise the full value of its mineral endowment.

The presence of Radnor Mine, which has employed hundreds of people including those from the local community, should result in the development of rural industry systems which increase the Gross Domestic Product of Mashonaland East Province.

Small scale and artisanal miners in the Mudzi district will also benefit immensely through the adoption of mining best practices, and in the end realise increased productivity.

Radnor Mine boasts of one of the largest gold crushing plants in the country producing about 10 000 tonnes of gold ore per day.
