The Raffingora community, in partnership with the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), have teamed up to construct a model police station.
It comes to replace the dilapidated structures at the old base in a display of the effectiveness of public-private partnerships.
The new station will house the Victim Friendly Unit (VFU), anti-stock-theft unit and holding cells, among others.
Owing to the poor state of the old police post, those arrested are being transferred to Mutorashanga, as the makeshift holding cells can only hold about four people at a time.
Village heads and other members of the community are playing a key role in mobilising bricks and other locally available materials while POTRAZ is funding the project.
Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo and Potraz director-general, Dr Gift Machengete and other dignitaries have gathered for the official launch of the project.
The funds were raised through the Potraz Director-General’s Golf Tournament, where various companies, including Zimpapers, Econet, Netone, TelOne and ZB Bank among others took part.
Part of the funds raised were donated to St Giles Rehabilitation in Harare.
