Rahman Gumbo’s widow funeral service unites Bulawayo in grief

By Online Reporter

A SOMBRE cloud hung over Brethren In Christ Church (BICC) in Bulawayo this morning as friends and family gathered for the funeral service of the late Virginia Sibanda, widow of legendary football coach Rahman Gumbo, ahead of her burial at Umvutshwa Cemetery today.
Sibanda passed away on Sunday at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) after a relentless battle with cancer, just under two years after her husband’s death in Botswana in November 2023.

The emotional send-off comes after weeks of heartbreak for the Sibanda family, who had recently issued a public plea for donations to help settle ballooning hospital bills. Her surgery alone cost US$15 000, leaving loved ones scrambling for support.
As mourners paid tribute, many described her as a quiet pillar of strength who endured pain with grace, standing tall even after the football fraternity lost one of its icons.
The couple leaves behind a legacy marked by love, loss and loyalty — now reunited in eternal rest.
