IN a startling revelation, Rai Poultry, a prominent chicken supplier in the region, owned by husband and wife Maxwell and Ever Machingura, has come forward to express their frustrations regarding unpaid debts owed by the ruling political party, Zanu-PF.

The couple alleges that their company has supplied over 6,000 chickens to the party since 2015, yet they have not received payment for the goods, totaling a staggering US$60,000.
Maxwell Machingura, a member of Zanu-PF and co-owner of Rai Poultry, has utilised his connections within the party to secure tenders, enabling their business to flourish. However, the unpaid debts have now taken a toll on their survival, prompting the desperate couple to approach the media in a bid to recover what is rightfully owed to them.
Speaking to our correspondent, Maxwell Machingura voiced his deep concern over the financial strain this situation has caused for their company.
“We have been loyal suppliers to Zanu-PF for years, even during the crucial period leading up to the August harmonised elections. It is disheartening to face such immense financial difficulties, especially when our business heavily relies on these payments,” he stated.
Efforts to recover the outstanding payments have proven unsuccessful thus far, leaving Rai Poultry in a precarious position. The couple is now seeking justice and fair treatment, urging the ruling party to settle their long-overdue debts promptly.
This revelation raises questions about the financial practices within Zanu-PF and the potential impact it may have on other local businesses. As Rai Poultry’s struggle for payment continues, it remains to be seen whether this situation will be resolved, and if so, how it will shape the relationship between the ruling party and local suppliers.
Zanu-PF officials have yet to respond to these allegations, leaving the public to wonder about the implications of such unpaid debts on the local economy and the broader business community.
Rai Poultry’s story serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by small businesses operating in politically influenced environments. As the couple fights to recover their dues, their plight highlights the importance of fair and transparent business practices, ensuring the success and growth of the local entrepreneurial spirit.
This newspaper will continue to follow this story closely and provide updates as the situation develops.
