Rail link to Maputo temporarily closed after wash-aways

Zimpapers Reporter

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has advised its customers and the general public that the railway line between Chicualacuala and Maputo has been temporarily closed due to numerous wash-aways caused by heavy rains in Mozambique.

In a statement posted on its social media platforms, NRZ said the development has affected the movement of traffic to and from Zimbabwe routed through that corridor.

NRZ added that Mozambique’s rail operator, Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM), has indicated that repair works will commence once water levels have subsided.

“NRZ apologises to its valued customers for the inconvenience caused by this disruption of service,” read the statement.
