RAILSTARS (men) and Spartans (women) volleyball teams emerged as the Bulawayo Volleyball Association (BVA) mid season tournament champions in a competition that was held at Raylton Sports Club on Saturday. The open event saw five teams from the ladies’ side and eight teams from the men’s side competing.
The low turn-up from the ladies side forced the game plan to change to the round robin format where Spartans managed to maintain an undefeated streak throughout the tournament and walked away with $60 while ZRP Raiders came second and were awarded $40 cash prize. Unit Fairbridge were placed third.
From the men’s side, Unit Fairbridge fell 2-0 to Railstars, who after their victory set a date with ZRP Raiders in the final where Railstars beat ZRP Raiders 3-0 in a best of five matches.
BVA vice president responsible for technical affairs Tinasone Chalemetsa said the games were exciting and competition was stiff.
“The teams had a lot of energy to display. Their game activity was hyper with every player aiming to lead their team to victory.
“The players also maintained discipline during matches and we’re happy that players are developing their game and maintaining a competitive atmosphere,” said Chalemetsa.
