WHAT a day it was at Gunners Soccer Club Bensley Road in Sydney, Australia, last Saturday where Zimbabweans from all walks of life in New South Wales converged for this annual football extravaganza.
Rains which pounded the city in the morning failed to damper the Zimbabweans’ spirits.
They came in droves to celebrate their Zimbabwean heritage through soccer, the beautiful game.
Besides the game of football, they mixed, mingled and networked.
The Junior Under-12s kicked off first after the delay because of the rains which started from 4am in the morning and only letting up at around 10am to a huge sigh of relief to the anxious but eager Zimbabweans who feared the worst that the festivity could be called off.
Fortunately, it did not happen and the fiesta went on.
Music started blaring as soon as many people gathered around 12 noon with top DJ Simon Chishaya, popularly known as DJ Simmy Shayas, churning out great Zimbabwean songs, old and contemporary ones which wowed the sizeable crowd.
Many took to the floor and danced their shoes and socks off.
