Rangers on verge of losing Maswanhise battle

… Zimbabwean star now set for Anderlecht

RANGERS are aware they are on the verge of losing the battle to sign Motherwell striker Tawanda Maswanhise.

The Scottish giants have been linked with Motherwell’s Zimbabwean striker Tawanda Maswanhise since the January transfer window closed.

The 23-year-old is on the back of an impressive season for Motherwell, scoring 17 goals in 35 Scottish Premiership football games.

Those numbers saw him win the Golden Boot as well, so it comes as no surprise that he is being linked with an exit.

Despite Maswanhise’s links with a move to Ibrox, Rangers News understands that the forward will not be joining the Light Blues this summer.

Rangers did consider the Zimbabwe international weeks ago before formalising their targets for the summer transfer window.

However, one source tells Rangers News that he did not make the shortlist for strikers, and they also felt that he had plans to move abroad.

Lawrence Shankland was Danny Rohl’s priority, and the Scotland international completed a permanent move from Hearts.

Maswanhise appears set to join Belgian club Anderlecht, as things stand, with Motherwell willing to sanction an exit.

The Scottish side will be pocketing a fee north of £2m for the in-demand striker, but it is fair to state that he has played his last game for them.

Rangers fans would have been thrilled to see the club move so quickly in the transfer window to secure the services of Shankland instead.

It is expected to be a busy transfer window at Ibrox, so there is a possibility of multiple deals going through ahead of the summer transfer window.

Dan Neil appears to be a priority, and the Gers could move quickly to sign the Sunderland midfielder on a free transfer.

Rangers could also sign Luke Graham next, as a bid is being readied for the Dundee centre-back.

Personal terms have already been agreed with Graham, so it now remains to be seen if other clubs touch base with him, or if he has his heart set on a move to Ibrox.

Work is also ongoing to sign a right-back and a left-back, with progress being made to sign multiple players. – Zimpapers Sports Hub\ rangersnews.uk
