Rape and robbery as gang assaults women with hammers

THREE men armed with machetes and a hammer allegedly attacked women who were camped in tents before robbing them and raping one of them, in the Midlands.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the Incident which occurred on 22 December.

Insp Mahoko said at Mandindi Mine, Mahamara Compound 22, Lalapanzi three armed robbers approached two tents where people were sleeping.

“In the first tent were two women. The robbers produced machetes and a hammer and assaulted the two ladies demanding valuables. The ladies surrendered US$300 and two cellphones.

“The three men went to the second tent where one woman (34) was sleeping before they struck her with a machete. She handed over US$100. One of the robbers raped one of the complainants before leaving the place,” he said.
