A SUSPECTED rapist (13) from Bulawayo has told a court that he wanted to relieve himself when he was allegedly caught red handed trying to rape an-eight-year-old girl whom he had met at a house which was under construction.
The suspect, a pupil at Pioneers Academy, escaped through a window from an angry mob after two women had caught him red handed allegedly trying to sexually abuse the victim.
The women called out to residents to come witness the bizarre incident.
The pupil jumped through the window naked but the angry residents apprehended and handed him over to the police.
Yesterday, the boy pleaded not guilty to attempt rape before West Commonage magistrate, Ms Tancy Dube.
He was remanded out of custody on free bail to September 23 for continuation of trial.
The boy said he never intended to rape the victim.
“I was on my way home when my stomach started aching and I decided to relieve myself inside a house that was still under construction. That’s when two women approached me saying I was trying to rape a girl,” he said.
Prosecuting, Mr Tapiwa Solani said the incident occurred sometime in October 2017.
“The complainant was on her way home when the accused person called her inside a house that was still under construction. The accused person ordered the complainant to lie down naked. When he was about to rape her, two women caught him and he tried to escape,” he said.
The victim said: “The accused person ran away leaving his clothes behind and the two women asked me what was happening and I told them everything. Residents then teamed up and caught up with him.” – @sharonbuwe
