A Chitungwiza man has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping his 12-year-old daughter.

The father was convicted of rape after a full trial before Chitungwiza regional magistrate Mrs Gloria Takundwa.

The State led by Ms Pamela Dzinduwa proved that in November last year, the girl and her younger sister were asleep in the same room with their father, who was sleeping on the bed.

The 12-year-old was not feeling well so stayed asleep when her sister woke up at around 6:30am and went outside to play.

The father woke up later, slipped into the girl’s blankets, covered her mouth with his hand to stop screams and threatened to hit her with an object if ever she screamed for help.

He raped her once without protection and continued to assault the child in the same room on other days.

During the month, the girl told the daughter of their landlord who helped her to report the assaults to the police.
