BULAWAYO’S three representatives at the Miller Genuine Draft Soundclash held in Harare at the weekend watched helplessly as one of Harare’s finest DJs Raydizz booked his place to Las Vegas for the Global Miller Music Tour in August. For coming out tops, DJ Raydizz, who beat nine other DJs, will this Saturday share the decks with top South African DJs, Fresh, Euphonik, Spectacular, Knaves and hip hop artiste Khuli Chana at the Miller Concert being held in Harare.
Raydizz (real name Rayhaan Jassat) will travel to Las Vegas in August to compete for the Global Miller Music competition.
He will also be part of the Miller Music tour running from August 22 to 26 where he will join other DJs drawn from around the world.
An excited Raydizz, who has been deejaying for the past 10 years, told Chronicle Showbiz that winning the Soundclash was a life-changing moment.
“Competition at the Soundclash was stiff as there was a pack of talented DJs. It still hasn’t hit me that I won the Soundclash and will be travelling to Las Vegas to represent Zimbabwe,” he said.
The DJ, whose winning set comprised of hip hop, Afro house and dancehall music, said he would promote Zimbabwean music at the Global Miller Music competition.
Bulawayo DJs Kananjo, Kead Wikead and Nospar participated at the national finals which were held over the weekend at the Grain Lounge and Pariah State.
DJ Kead Wikead settled for third position, Kananjo fifth while Nospar was knocked out in the first round on Friday night.
One of the judges, Gibson Ncube, said Kead Wikead lost the plot in the final after impressing in the semis.
He said complacency seemed to have got the better of Kead Wikead as he relaxed with his set on Saturday.
“I thought he had it in the bag with the way he did things on Saturday. We were all stunned as to how he started making mistakes,” said Ncube.
Efforts to get a comment from Kead Wikead were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered. However his WhatsApp status read: “I am sorry Mthwakazi I tried my best.”
