ZIMBABWE recovered from a slow start to set a healthy total against Ireland in the opening match of their ICC T20 World Cup campaign in Australia today.
The Chevrons reached 174/8 in their 20 overs after they had lost the toss and sent in to bat first under the lights at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Australia.
Sikandar Raza was in fiery form with a blistering knock of 82 runs. The in-form right handed batsman faced 48 balls and struck five boundaries and as many sixes.
His knock was key as Zimbabwe recovered from a dangerous position of 37/3 in the powerplay overs to record their highest score at the ICC T20 World Cup. Ireland’s Josh Little took 3-24.
However, the Irish started off the chase in the worst possible manner after Richard Ngarava got the big wicket of Paul Stirling (0) before returning to bowl out Lorcan Tucker (11) to leave the opponents at 14/2 after 2.4 overs.
