Nostalgia took centre stage at Belgravia Sports Club on Saturday as R&B and dancehall lovers turned out in impressive numbers to celebrate the first anniversary of R&B Dancehall Lovers.
Held under the theme “Old Is The New Vibe” and organised by Juice the Strongest DJ, among others, the event offered revellers a musical trip down memory lane, revisiting the golden era of 1990s and 2000s R&B and dancehall.
The celebration attracted music enthusiasts from different age groups, with organisers describing the turn-out and atmosphere as exceptional.
“We are extremely happy with how everything turned out. The attendance was exceptional, and the energy from the crowd was unbelievable. Seeing people coming in their numbers to celebrate with us made the first anniversary truly special,” organisers said.
They said the response demonstrated that old-school music continues to enjoy a strong following despite the dominance of contemporary sounds.
“We wanted to give people an opportunity to relive the music they grew up listening to, and the response showed that the love for these classics is still very much alive,” they said.
The milestone also marked a year of building a platform for music lovers to reconnect through shared musical memories.
Organisers acknowledged the support received over the past year, promising bigger and better experiences in future editions.
Revellers were equally impressed, with Laira Zuva saying the event brought back memories of an era when music created lasting connections.
“I really enjoyed myself. These are the songs we grew up listening to, and hearing them played in one place brought back so many memories,” she said.
Brenda Chikowore also praised the atmosphere, particularly the coming together of different generations on the dance floor.
