THE Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe are in a celebratory mood after marking four years of transforming the country’s football landscape.

Since its launch in October 2020, the academy has made significant strides in youth development and commercial growth.

“We celebrate four years of the Real Betis project in Zimbabwe,” said Gerald Sibanda, chairman of Betis Academy Zimbabwe.

“After our successful launch, it’s with deep gratitude that we look back at the impact Real Betis has brought to the Zimbabwean football economy. Multiple sponsors and brands have showcased their products through the academy and La Liga media assets, experiencing VIP hospitality in the Spanish La Liga at the historic Estadio Benito Villamarín.”

The academy has facilitated annual tours for its players to Real Betis’s headquarters in Spain since 2022, providing a comprehensive experience of the club’s inner workings.

Notably, the Under-19 team from 2020 has seen outstanding graduates transition to professional leagues in Zimbabwe and the region.

Nokutenda Mangezi (19) has emerged as a top talent in the South African Premier League, while Tanaka Munemo has impressed since joining Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Sibanda said they have expanded their programme for the good.

“Real Betis Academy has expanded its programme, developing a nursery and football school for players aged four to 12 years.

Our Elite High-Performance programme continues to discover and nurture talented players from 13 to 19 years old. We aim to produce world-class talent in top leagues and participate in local and international transfer markets.”

The academy expressed gratitude to the Government, the Sports and Recreation Commission, Zifa and the Spanish embassy for their support.
