Recalibrate your relationships

Nyaradzo Viki Mavindidz Motivation for Success
As we enter into the cold grey season, (though the Zimbabwean winter makes the fashion forwards look foolish wearing coats and boots on sunny and rather warm winter afternoon) we also seem to be feeling cold and grey as a nation.

A lot has happened in the social, economic and spiritual spheres and you wonder what’s next? The fear, despondency and dread is tangible, hope is a thin veil offered by those who realise the best way to survive is to try again each morning. Some may not even be able to read this article anymore as they have left their workstations after retrenchment.

Thriving is no longer a reality for most as many have lost the hope of realising their simplest dreams. Many have posited solutions and formulas and most are hopeless.

There are very few right minded individuals even though shaken by the tide who are professing success. A dear friend recently said something that has since become my mantra, ‘Chero tikapinda mumadhaka inini ndinotobuda ndakabata muramba!’(Even if we end up in the mud I will come out holding a catfish!)

The big question on the streets is how do you survive this era? This answer is recalibrate! To calibrate is to adjust settings on a machine or device to suit the intended purpose and optimise results, quality or function. Recalibrating is therefore readjusting. Change is the new normal and in order to survive the tide and excel we need to be constantly adjusting our sails.

This week start by recalibrating your relationships.

Right now more than ever is the best time to tap into your relationships. Relationships are the key to increased success.

Even though the relationships in our lives are directly connected to our success, they are an often-overlooked aspect of our daily work activities and our quarterly goals.

Do the relationships in your life deserve more energy than you’re currently giving them? Let’s find out. Which of the following is true for you or your business?

You want to create more abundance in your life or business

You want a career that you love and feel passionately about

You want your brand to improve and your prosperity to increase

If any of the above are true, then it’s essential for you to recalibrate your relationships

Here are 5 ways to recalibrate your relationships and put your professional, personal and business success on warp speed!

1: Focus on quantity

The more people you know, the more personal and professional leverage you will have. Sociologists call that “social capital.” Strive to increase the number of people with whom you are acquainted and friendly. If you happen to be an extrovert, this will be an especially effective method for you, as extroverts get their energy from being around lots of people.

2: Focus on the quality

The more profoundly deep, intimate and trusting your relationships are, the more personal and professional leverage you have. In truth, it only takes a few good “super fans” to take your business to the next level. If you happen to be an introvert, this will be an especially effective method for you, as introverts are naturally inclined to focus on quality over quantity. If you are going to thrive in this season you need to release the people in your life who drain your energy, and focus on those friends or super fan-customers who enhance your energy and who deserve your attention.

This has been very difficult for me as a consultant to say No and walk away from clients that do not align with my goals and values, but walking away has freed my time and mental space and enabled me to work on projects that are congruent with my vision.

3: Create a relationship list

You must know who the givers are in your life. One of the most-effective success principles for work and for life, is also one of the least followed: “give to your givers.”

It’s essential that you always be cultivating an actual relationship list to keep track of who the givers are! This is not just a database or contacts folder, this list represents the cream of your crop.

4: Add fresh blood to your list

Sometimes a relationship list can get stale and inbred. It’s an excellent idea to periodically insert a fresh person who is completely outside your current business or social circle onto your list. Look out to building relationships with people who are miles ahead of you who will spur you to the next level.

5: Create a relationship action plan

Now that you have a gorgeous and updated list of the givers in your life, it’s time to have a proactive strategy for how you will turn that garden into an abundant harvest of joy and prosperity.

In what ways will you reach out to your tribe, and how often? Once again, online social networking is excellent for this.

Though your budget and your time may not allow you to have a face-time lunch with each of your “givers” every month, social channels easily allow you to provide value to your tribe and nurture those important relationships.)

An outstanding relationship action plan that is beautifully executed can help you and your business to grow market share and increase profits — I know this is true because I’ve seen it happen time and time again.

If you can fit it into your company’s operating budget, I encourage you to explore the possibility of engaging a talented digital marketing/social media consultant or hiring a community manager.

It can make all the difference.

What would happen to your work life and your personal life if you were to execute all five of the methods I listed above?

Would your life be enriched? In what ways?

There is no other way of thriving in this era but to recalibrate!
