RECALLED Ward 10 Councillor Nkanyiso Sibindi appeared before Victoria Falls Magistrate Ms Fadzai Dzimiri on Friday facing charges of malicious damage to property after he allegedly destroyed a council laptop during a heated council meeting.

Sibindi, who was recently recalled from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), was granted US$300 bail.

The court heard that on June 4, 2026, at around 5:30pm, Sibindi was attending an ordinary council meeting at the Victoria Falls City Council Chambers when the Town Clerk, Ronnie Dube, read a ministerial letter recalling three councillors, including Sibindi.

The Mayor of Victoria Falls, Councillor Prince Thuso Moyo, ordered the three recalled councillors to leave the chambers.

When they failed to comply, the Mayor instructed the Chief Security Officer to enforce the order.

Prosecutor Ms Audrey Mukanganya told the court that Sibindi refused to leave, declaring that the recall was not genuine. Police were called to intervene.

“The accused person then indicated that he is not leaving the Chambers stating that the recall was not genuine which led the intervention of the police. The accused person later jumped over the Boardroom table and struck the Victoria Falls City Council’s HP Laptop Corei5 on the ground and jumped on top thereby causing damage to it.

“The accused person was then arrested and taken to ZRP Victoria Falls police station for further management. The value of the damaged property is USD$975-00 and no repairs have been made. The accused person acted unlawfully,” said Ms Mukanganya.

The laptop, an HP Corei5, belonged to the Victoria Falls City Council and is represented in the matter by Ronie Mehluli Moyo.

As part of his bail conditions, Sibindi was ordered not to interfere with State witnesses.

He is expected to return to court.

Sibindi is among several CCC councillors recently recalled by the party’s self-styled interim secretary-general, a move that has sparked controversy and legal battles across the country.
