RECORD BREAKERS IN LOWER LEAGUE

Raymond Jaravaza .
WHILE Premier Soccer League strikers are finding it hard to break the 20 goal mark in as many seasons, strikers in the lower league the Zifa Bulawayo Province Division Two seem to be bent on outclassing one another by breaking records with each passing season.

In 2015 Prince Dube a the Highlanders young sensation a scored 24 goals when he was still playing for the Bosso developmental team that ultimately won promotion into division one football in the Zifa Southern Region league.

One year later Leeroy Mbewe netted 26 goals in the concluded Zifa Bulawayo Province Division Two league for eventual winners Chiwororo who will play Division One football next year.

He was rewarded by with $100 for scooping the golden boot award at an awards ceremony held last weekend at the Homestead Conference Centre in Bulawayo.

Willsgrove Farm bankrolled the awards to the tune of $3 000.

a?I think it all comes down to discipline from the players as well as the coaches, for example none of the clubs was brought before our disciplinary committee the whole season. We also want to commend the clubs for applying the principle of fair play throughout the season which brings out the best in our players.

a?Itas also encouraging to see our strikers scoring more goals at the end of each season and breaking records,a? said Zifa Bulawayo Province acting chairman Francis Ntuta.

The sponsors of the end of year awards Willsgrove Farm have indicated that they want to stay on bankrolling the local junior football league.

a?When we partnered the Zifa Bulawayo Province we wanted to see the growth and development of grassroots football in the city and we are happy our sponsorship is motivating clubs and players to work hard.

a?Itas good to see young players like Prince whom we awarded the top goal scorer award in 2015 playing for a big club like Highlanders,a? said Willsgrove spokesperson John Mutero.
