Patrick Chitumba, Midlands Bureau Chief
REDCLIFF municipality has awarded a $500 000 tender for the rehabilitation of the Zisco road to improve service delivery in the satellite town.

Mayor, Councillor Fred Kapuya, said the road was important in that it links the local authority to the Harare-Bulawayo highway.

He said Zisco road was the busiest road in his local authority, which starts from corner Redcliff turn off along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.

“I am glad to note that we have awarded a $500 000 tender for the rehabilitation of Zisco road that starts from Redcliff turn off, which is from the Harare-Bulawayo highway.

“The rehabilitation, which will see the resurfacing of the 7km road, was necessitated by the need to spruce up our image and improve on service delivery as we anticipate the re-opening of the former steel giant Ziscosteel under this new political dispensation,” said Clr Kapuya.

He said the tender would also result in the installation of about 50 solar powered street lights along Zisco road and other roads in the local authority to protect motorists and pedestrians from muggings at night.

Clr Kabuya said scores of residents had been mugged at Redcliff turn off and along other roads in the local authority, which do not have street lights.

“The Redcliff turn off road at the moment is dull since there is no eye catching signage and the road is now a bit on the bad side. So we hope the rehabilitation of the roads, street lighting and improved signage will benefit the local authority and investors as well,” he said.

Clr Kapuya said from Monday (today), the contractor would move onto the ground and was expected to have completed the job in a month’s time.
