Reds granted the nod

LONDON. — Liverpool have been granted planning permission to expand the capacity of Anfield to 53 500. The Reds have been given the green light by Liverpool City Council to go ahead with their £75million upgrade.  A motion to defer the decision because of concerns over transport for the extra fans was voted down five to one yesterday. Liverpool will now look to press on with their extension of the main stand.

Express Sport understands the new main stand capacity will rise by around 8 300 seats, taking the overall capacity of Anfield to around 53 500.—The Daily Express.
