The referee was heard threatening to fix Makhandeni. The western suburbs club did not pay Chivandire for a previous match.
A penalty was awarded to How Mine in controversial circumstances just after eight minutes. Goalkeeper Njabulo Dube buried the effort home.
Makhandeni Pirates assistant coach Dazzy Kapenya said his boys played well but failed to convert the chances they created.
“The boys played well but we failed to bury our chances and we were short in attack with our top striker Trust Usiya suspended and young Toto Banda tired after playing on Friday for his school, Mpopoma,” Kapenya said.
Club chairman Faith Dube said they were extremely disappointed with the way the match was handled by Chivandire.
“We do not protest How Mine’s win but we protest the circumstances under which they won.
“The match official threatened us before the match began and true to his word he gave a non-existent penalty and gave three of our defenders yellow cards in the first half,” Dube fumed.
How Mine are among the championship favourites.
