IN what could be a clear sign of confidence in the recently appointed Zimbabwe Referees Committee, five Zimbabwean referees will in the next two months be actively involved in regional and international assignments.
Women assistant referee and reigning Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Assistant Referee of the Year Claris Simango yesterday flew out of the country for Cameroon to attend a one week Caf elite course for referees and assistant referees.
Simango is likely to be one of the match officials at next month’s Total Africa Women Cup of Nations in the same country.
Bulawayo’s Faith Mloyi and Brighton Chimene have been appointed referees for the African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Youth Games pencilled for Angola from December 5-15, while Nomore Musundire will do duty at the Cosafa Under-20 football tournament in South Africa from December 7-19.
“We will also have Norman Matemera attending a Caf B elite referees’ course in Cameroon for a week beginning November 1. It is pleasing to note that our external stakeholders have not taken long to recognise that there is now order in the organisation of refereeing in the country,” said Zimbabwe Referees Committee deputy chairperson Gladmore Muzambi. — @skhumoyo2000
