being done via sms or by visiting the Star Brite centres, dotted around Zimbabwe.
The talent show will see participants battling it out in different categories, which include singing, dancing and comedy among others.
Star Brite director and well-known television and radio personality Barney Mpariwa said they had overwhelming response from would-be contestants.
“We have received many applications from different parts of Zimbabwe and the registration is still going on for those who have not yet registered,” Mpariwa said.
After registration, auditions will be done at provincial level and the winners will compete at the national finals, which will be held in Harare at the end of the year.
Mpariwa said the show aims at giving talented Zimbabweans a platform to showcase their talent.
“The show seeks to give an avenue to talented artistes where they can showcase their talent and eke out a living doing what they enjoy most,” he said.
The winners of the talent show will get an all expenses paid trip to United States of America and also recording contracts courtesy of Oliver Mtukudzi and other recording labels.
Mpariwa said this year competition was in honour of Mtukudzi and the semi-finalists of the show will play Tuku’s songs as recognition of his contribution to Zimbabwe’s music and arts industry.
Mpariwa urged parents to let their children realise the full potential of their talents rather than forcing them to be bookworms.
“I urged parents to support their children who have various talents so as to realise their dreams. Entertainment is now the best paying profession the world over,” Mpariwa said.
Star Brite is a talent search show which was started in the early 1990s with the aim of identifying and nurturing talent in Zimba-bwe.
The show gave birth to stars like Tendai Chidarikire of the “Sasa Wasasa” fame, jazz diva Prudence Katombeni-Mbofana and Matthew “Mateo” Kaunda among others who became household stars in their own right.
Star Brite will be one of the many talent shows in Zimbabwe that promote up and coming talents that include Chibuku Road to Fame, Harare’s Got Talent as well as the Music Crossroads.
Mpariwa is not a new name in the broadcasting industry as he made his mark in the late 1980s as presenter of programmes such as Music Box, Ezomgido and Star Brite.
