THE rehabilitation and upgrade of the Harare–Chirundu Highway, one of the Second Republic’s flagship infrastructure projects, is set to begin soon after Government approved funding for the project, Zanu PF National Chairperson and Minister of Defence, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, has said.
Speaking in Chinhoyi on Friday while assessing preparations for the Zanu PF 23rd National People’s Conference, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said work on the strategic highway would commence shortly, underscoring the ruling party’s commitment to infrastructure development and nation-building.
The conference, scheduled for October at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), will run under the theme, “From Resolutions To Results: Consolidating Economic Development And Deepening Empowerment Towards Vision 2030.”
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri revealed the theme during the preparatory meeting. The theme, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said, reflected progress made by the Second Republic in improving lives, economic development and empowering communities across the country.
“It is quite befitting considering the inroads that we are making as Government,” Minister Muchinguri said.
“Now we have reached eight percent economic growth as a country, and we are number two in Africa, coming just after Ethiopia.
“Wherever we have held these conferences on a rotational basis, we have left legacy projects for that province. In this case, the exciting issue is the main road leading to Kariba and Chirundu Border Post.
“We have been assured by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development that they are working on it and the budget has been set with works to start soon.”
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri, who was accompanied by several party officials, also toured the conference venue and residential areas where some of the delegates will be accommodated.
Zanu PF Secretary for Justice, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi warned Zimbabweans from being swayed by malcontents bent on derailing development and progress.
“We had consultations for CAB3 where people were free to oppose the bill. We are now urging our people to desist from doing acts of violence that will destabilise peace. We have to focus on development and bury the hatchet,” said Cde Ziyambi.
Zanu PF provincial chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said the province was ready to host the annual gathering.
“As Mashonaland West Province, we are pleased by the visit of the National Chairperson to assess preparations. She expressed satisfaction with the progress made, and the outstanding issues she identified are now being addressed to ensure everything proceeds smoothly,” she said.
