Reigate dominates at Naph tournament

REIGATE District dominated day one of the two-day National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) Bulawayo provincial track and field tournament at White City Stadium yesterday. Reigate accumulated a total of 31 medals, which include 19 gold, six silver and six bronze, by the end of yesterday’s proceedings with defending champions Mzilikazi District a close second with 27 medals (seven gold, 12 silver and eight bronze).

Imbizo District has 14 medals, Bulawayo Central 11 medals and Khami District 23. Although Khami had a large medal haul, only two are gold, with 11 silver and 10 bronze.

Naph Bulawayo chairman Bongani Sibanda said they were happy with the level of competition and commitment displayed by the athletes.

“We hope to have a similar day tomorrow (today) as we conclude the tournament and select our final provincial team to represent us in the national track and field championships,” said Sibanda.

There was also a Physical Education (PE) competition that was won by Malindela Primary of Khami District, which now proceeds to the nationals to be held at Torwood Stadium in Redcliff from March 15-18. PE involves gymnastics, dance and any ball game compressed in 20 minutes.
