Rejects, juju landmines and dance spirits

Khuphuka Nasingeni
We had this heated discussion with uMzo and friends at the usual place while downing a couple of drinks, in celebration of some future promises.A More of that later.A The question was why a spouse rejected by their partner could be found to be so desirable by another man or woman?

There were suggestions that some unions were mismatched hence ending in divorce but someone was of the view that it was the coupleas responsibility to make it work once the relationship was established.A There was no ready moderator and in no time the discussion had moved from marriage to soccer and the question was why players considered rejects at some teams became darlings at others.

What I found in common was that the one rejecting the other wishes them ill and recoil in shame should the reject find another lease of life elsewhere.A There is this tendency by couples to fail to let go of their former partners to a point where men still refer to people they divorced as their wives if they do well in life after the break-up!A We have seen a couple of so-called rejects shining in football around the world and even in the local league.

You rule out some characters as has-beens at your own peril.A Take for example the yesteryear Cup Kings.A Caps United generated such a tremor that shook the diamonds of Lubumbashi and led to the revision of the form book.

We take our hats off to the guys and caution that it was only one leg though a crucial one psychologically.

All of a sudden my friends that associated with other teams that I shall not mention are singing praises of Caps and Leicester, and claiming to have always supported these teams!A I hope when our teams do well, as in Europe, our coaches get the praise so that we break this funny assessment where when we lose it is our coaches but when we do well it is because of quality of individual players.

Still in Lubumbashi, I saw some picture somewhere suggesting thatA TP Mazembe had planted some juju on the pitch.A Believe it or not, juju is very much a part of the game in Africa though the jury is still out on its effectiveness.A I wonder what the medicine/juju man is telling their customer after the unfavourable result.A We can only guess and hope that the package they will take to Harare will be equally ineffective since our national pride is at stake here.A Still on the same note, I pity Bulawayoas stadiums this season.

Quite a number of teams are sharing stadiums in the city and it would not be surprising to see holes in pitches as different teams plant their herbal landmines and I can almost guess that when the juju fails to work it would be blamed on tampering by other teams using the same pitch.A Maybe there is a need to agree on the sides of the pitch that each team would use for their juju implants to avoid conflict!

You see, there are many reasons why it is important for a team to own a stadium. Ask Leicester that has made King Power a difficult place since the departure of Ranieri.A And I am not suggesting anything on the use or non-use of substances by the aforementioned.

Now back to the future promises.A We have been unbelievably kind to our civil servant friends since we heard that bonus cash is on its way to their pockets.A Itas time to mend romantic liaisons with that civil servant boyfriend or girlfriend.

Do not blame me for associating with these guys or the tobacco and maize farmers, especially since Minister Made has assured that farmers shall be paid cash and on time. There has been drama on the dancefloor this past week.A I have often argued with my friends that in matters of the spirit, no music or song is innocent in that realm.

We have a lot of prophets who can explain the phenomenon.A Macheso breaks down in the middle of a song and fails to continue with his show as he is whisked off and consoled. Then we had Andy Muridzoas dancer getting possessed at a Jah Prayzah show.A I wonder if some guys still need those biras out there or all they need is buy a ticket for Jahas show and take along your relative who is the spirit medium.A You can seriously cut costs in the process!
