Renowned economist Danny Dube dies

Mr Dube died of acute renal failure after battling against the disease for over a year. He died on Tuesday at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and is survived by wife Susan and daughter Tanya.

Family spokesperson Mr Gift Shoko said Mr Dube will be buried at Warren Hills tomorrow.
He said mourners are gathered at Mr Dube’s parents’ home at 20 Cloverly Road, Chadcombe in Harare.
Mr Shoko said Mr Dube was a persistent and positive character.

“We grew up together and he was somebody very positive about life,” he said. “Even up to the point of his death he had various business plans. I remember two days before he died he showed me one and I said, ‘but you are bedridden’.”

“He responded saying, ‘it’s only a phase, this thing will pass’. So, he was persistent to the end.”
An economist of note, Mr Dube championed the cause of business as ZNCC president and predicted a number of economic ills that came to haunt Zimbabwe over the past decade.

Up until he died, the economist cum-businessman was doing consultancy for firms wishing to raise capital and for foreign investors looking to enter the local market for the first time.

Before starting the consultancy, Mr Dube was running an asset management company he co-founded with businessman and partner, TZI chief executive, Mr Edwin Moyo.

Mr Dube co-founded Genesis Investment Bank together with Mr Regi Max which they revived from the ashes of the Trade and Investment Bank. He once worked as the managing director of Bard Discount House. It was at that point that he was elected the president of ZNCC.
Mr Dube also worked for CBZ.
