THe Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has urged passengers to speak out against negligent driving to reduce carnage on the road this festive season. In an interview, TSCZ Information Communication Technology (ICT) manager Mr Tatenda Chinoda said passengers had a role to play in reducing accidents.
“As passengers, you should know that it is your collective responsibility to preserve life and not to allow one person to determine the fate of everyone. Passengers should make sure they speak against negligent driving. Most road accidents are attributed to human error by drivers, so it is very important for passengers to make sure they speak out against negligent driving,” he said.
Mr Chinoda urged motorists to plan their trips well during the festive season.
“Whenever you decide to embark on journeys, they must be planned to avoid night travelling. Planning journeys is important in that you will not be forced to rush. Avoid boarding overloaded vehicles,” he said.
Mr Chinoda urged travellers to use public service vehicles for safety reasons. TSCZ targets to reduce road accidents by 50 percent this festive season. It has embarked on Integrated Road Safety Awareness campaigns countrywide, including the use social media platforms to send messages.
