A GENERAL HAND employed by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has appeared in court on allegations of stealing US$1 500 from his employer before losing the whole amount while playing an online betting game called aviator, popularly known as “chindege”.

Pets Napwaro (48) pleaded guilty to unlawful entry charges when he appeared before a Harare magistrate.

The RBZ is being represented by Benard Kenneth Chitenje, who is an asset manager.

The State led by Mr Takudzwa Mutyavaviri said on April 25, 2026, the complainant secured his office at the RBZ, number 80 Samora Machel Avenue, Harare, by locking the office door, leaving the office window slightly open.

He left US$1 500 belonging to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in the drawer while proceeding to Kaguvi Street, where he intended to buy car parts for his motor vehicle.

During the complainant’s absence, Napwaro hatched a plan to steal the money which was in the office.

Pursuant to his plan, the accused person proceeded to the office and used a chair to scale through the window to gain entry into the office.

While inside the office, Napwaro took the US$1 500, which was in the drawer and then went away unnoticed.

When he returned to the office, Chitenje discovered that the money was missing and reported the issues at ZRP Harare Central Police .

Investigations made by the police led to Napwaro’s arrest. The court heard that Napawaro was interviewed and admitted to have committed the offence and indicated that he had gambled the money playing the aviator (Kandege) at MWORS.
