RESIDENTS of Ward 11, Mbare yesterday participated in a pre-budget consultative meeting aimed at highlighting the ward’s achievements in 2024 and gathering input on future development plans.
Ward Councillor Felix Chabuda said the meeting was aimed at providing an overview of the success stories for 2024 and getting input from residents towards the development of Mbare in the year 2025.
“We have witnessed significant progress in our ward, including road construction, improved lighting, and infrastructure repairs,” he said.
“Your insights are crucial as we plan for Mbare’s continued growth in 2025.”
Residents made several suggestions, including the need for enhanced security, improved recreational facilities, modernised bus terminals, and upgraded sewage and water infrastructure.
Mbare resident Mr Charles Ruwizha advocated for a dedicated municipal police post to address the area’s security challenges.
“There is lack of security in the area hence we suggest a dedicated municipal police post in our ward,” he said.
“On sporting facilities, council should come up with a sports development levy to support local talent.
“Some major roads need to be reconstructed such as Runyararo, Mbirima, Mhlanga and from the corner of Third Avenue and Mushongandebvu Road up to Kingstone Ground.
“They are in a very bad start and they need to be considered in the 2025 budget.”
Other residents urged the City of Harare to invest in designated marketplaces for vendors to boost revenue collection and suggested implementing 24/7 revenue collection at bus ranks.
