Resorts employees face theft charges

Senior Court Reporter

Three gardeners employed at Manna Resorts in Harare, which was recently razed by fire, have appeared in court on allegations of taking advantage of the incident to steal cash from one of the offices.

Zacharia Phiri, Richman Kamusasa and Simon Vhiya appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with theft.

They allegedly stole US$2 500 from Netty Musasa’s office when the resort caught fire on November 1.

It is the State’s case that on November 1, Musasa travelled to South Africa and returned to the country on the same day.

It is said that she left her office locked on the very day the resort caught fire.

On the next day, Musasa returned to her office to check whether everything was okay as there had been a fire incident the previous day.

She discovered that her office property had been moved to another room.

Musasa went to the room where her office property was stored and noted that the money that she had kept in the office was missing.

She made enquiries and another employee, Guilty Maneja said he had seen the trio pulling the money from a white wallet after which they gave him US$2 to keep the secret.

Musasa made a police report leading to the trio’s arrest.
