Restaurant sues over Youth Games debt

BULAWAYO fast food outlet Café Munandi is suing the local organising committee (LOC) of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games for failing to settle a catering bill for services rendered during the tournament held in Bulawayo from December 4-14 last year. The restaurant is owed $17,105 by the LOC for the catering it provided at the 10-day event.

According to summons filed at the Bulawayo High Court on August 31, Café Munandi said the two parties had agreed that the restaurant would provide catering for the AUSC LOC for the duration of the games, but the LOC failed to honour the contractual terms.

The agreement stated that final payment would be due and demandable 30 days after the submission of the final invoice by Café Munandi to the LOC.

According to the summons, Café Munandi said they received a commitment from the LOC on March, 20 to pay the outstanding sum but the arrears have still not been settled.

Café Munandi won the tender to provide catering services for LOC officials, games participants and invited guests.

According to the agreement, the food outlet was to deliver readymade meals on a daily basis for the duration of the games with a weekly receipt being submitted to the LOC so as to keep record of the transaction.

The LOC was supposed to pay for the catering services through depositing money into Café Munandi’s bank account.
