TYSON FURY has revealed that Anthony Joshua’s personal tragedy convinced him to return to the boxing ring.
The Gypsy King, 37, retired for the FIFTH time in 2025 before announcing his comeback a year later.
Fury’s return will be against Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11.
And it was the death of two people – in a car crash Joshua survived – that jolted Fury‘s boxing career back to life.
The veteran heavyweight said in a press conference on Monday: “Tomorrow is not promised to anybody.
“The Bible says tomorrow is not a gift. Tomorrow ain’t promised. Tomorrow is a mystery. So we have to live for today.
“And me living for that day, I made my mind up there and then that I’m going to come back to boxing. Because it’s something that I love and I’m passionate about. And that I’ve always been in love with.
“And there is no tomorrow to put it off to. So that’s why I’m back today for this big fight.”
AJ sustained minor injuries in the Lagos smash that killed his close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele in December.
Joshua and some of his entourage had travelled to Nigeria after his knockout win over Jake Paul on December 19.
The Brit called Ghami and Ayodele “his brothers” and admitted losing them has been “really tough”.
Fury recalled: “I was on holiday with my family in Thailand for Christmas, just to get away from the rain. Sick of the rain, it was depressing me.
“And then I hear all that bad news that’s gone on. And I thought, you know what? Life is very, very short and very precious and very fragile.
“Anything could happen at any given moment. And you should never, never put things off until tomorrow or next year or next week.”
Fury had built up an unbeaten record of 34 wins and one draw by the end of 2023.
But he walked away from the sport after back-to-back defeats against Oleksandr Usyk – the last of which came in December 2024.
In Russian fighter Makhmudov, Fury is up against a 6ft 6in slugger with a 21-2 record.
Questions remain over AJ’s boxing future, with fans clamouring for an all-British showdown against Fury which may never happen – Sun.
