Insp Chademana said on the fateful day, the suspect, Tatenda Tshuma, arrived at Bvumbura Business Centre accompanied by his dog.
“He went into Nkomo Bottle Store where he intended to join other patrons to drink beer,” he said.
Insp Chademana said some imbibers inside the bar who included Shumba were not amused by Tshuma’s move of bringing his dog inside. He said they started quarrelling with Tshuma.
“One of the imbibers, Mr Pardon Shumba, then stood up and confronted Tshuma. The two then dragged each other outside the bar where they then started exchanging blows,” said Insp Chademana.
He said Believed Shumba, who is Pardon’s brother, joined the fight.
“It is alleged that during the fight, Tshuma drew a knife and stabbed Believed Shumba twice on the chest before he also stabbed Mr Pardon Shumba twice on the back,” he said.
Insp Chademana said Believed Shumba died on the spot while his brother, Pardon, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to Masase Hospital.
“A report was made to the police who attended to the scene and took the body of the deceased to Masase Hospital mortuary. Pardon Shumba is still admitted to the same hospital where he is recovering,” he said.
The police provincial spokesperson said Tshuma, who initially fled the scene after committing the crime, was now in police custody assisting with investigations.
“Police investigations are still in progress. I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to members of the public to always seek a third party when solving disputes. Members of the public are warned against using violence to settle problems,” he said.
