Revolutionising industries: The power of Artificial Intelligence

Kumbirai Tarusarira, Correspondent

ARTIFICIAL Intelligence (AI) is transforming all socio-economic sectors of the world at a breakneck pace, and Zimbabwe and Africa at large have not been left behind.

The upcoming Zimpapers AI seminar scheduled for July 24, 2024 in Harare, presents a platform to highlight the vast potential of AI in boosting developmental growth across various sectors, including tourism, education, health and business.

The Zimbabwe tourism industry has seen significant growth with a 24 percent increase in the 3rd quarter of 2023.

The increase in tourist arrivals was attributed to the ongoing recovery in global tourism, improved transportation, infrastructure and marketing and promotion initiatives by the players in the tourism industry.

Coupled with an AI-powered chatbots, customer experience can be enhanced to provide personalised travel recommendations, and streamline booking processes.

In Zimbabwe, AI can help promote cultural heritage sites, such as the Great Zimbabwe Monuments and increase tourism revenue.

Statistics show that education can also be improved by up to 50 percent with the help of AI. According to Unesco, AI can improve access to quality education, enable personalised learning, and automate grading systems.

In Africa, AI can help address the shortage of qualified teachers and make education more inclusive.

Research by the World Health Organisation indicates that AI can improve medical diagnosis accuracy by up to 90%, streamline clinical workflows, and improve patient outcomes. In Zimbabwe, AI can help tackle diseases such as malaria and HIV/Aids while in the corporate world and in business AI has the potential to optimise operations, enhance customer service, and drive innovation.

In Zimbabwe and Africa, it can help entrepreneurs and SMEs access new markets and improve competitiveness.

It also has the potential to drive developmental growth by improving access to quality education and healthcare, boosting tourism revenue and cultural preservation, enhancing business productivity and addressing socio-economic challenges, such as poverty and inequality.

The Zimpapers AI seminar will highlight the vast opportunities present for Zimbabwe and Africa to leverage AI in driving socio-economic growth. Embracing AI can therefore lead to transformative changes in various sectors, improving the overall quality of life and economic prospects for Zimbabwe and Africa at large.
