THERE was no winner in the Castle Lager Premeir Soccer League battle of the army teams as Black Rhinos failed to utilise home advantage and were held by Buffaloes at Rimuka yesterday. Rhinos have so far gone for six consecutive league games without conceding a goal at their adopted home at Rimuka.
But Arthur Tutani’s troops continute to struggle for fire opower upfront and yesterday they neither had the lady luck nor the firepower to overcome the Mutare soldiers.
Former Chapungu and Dynamos hitman Phillip Marufu was the first to spurn a good chance for Rhinos in the 10th minute when he failed to connect with a cross from the right by winger Brain Muzondiwa with Buffaloes goalkeeper Blessed Mwandimutsira a beaten man.
Mwandimutsira was called into action three minutes later to make a brilliant save when he parried away a Gilbert Mushangazhike close range header.
After a shaky start to the game, the Buffaloes defence, which was marshalled by Temba Ndlovu who put on a man of the match show, gained composure in the second half and repelled all the Rhinos raids and ensured Mwandimutsira’s goal was not breached. Buffaloes had a chance to get a breakthrough when Wonder Sithole’s effort off a free-kicjk from about 25 mteres out narrowly went wide with Rhinos goalkeeper Herbert Rusawo already beaten.
The match however, failed to rise to expectations and the fans who had come left Rimuka a disappointed lot after failing to get value for their money. Buffaloes coach Timothy Masachi was still satisfied with the draw and argued that “salvaging a point away from home is not bad.
“I am content with this draw and my boys played well, never mind the chances they failed to deliver. That point is so precious to us the visiting side as winning away from home is proving to be difficult’’ Masachi said.
But Tutani lamented the missed chances by his strikers. “It wasn’t our day. We could have buried them had we utilised those chances we blew away. Anyway that is part of the game. The players failed to advertise their scoring prowess which saw them pumping three goals against How Mine in our previous game,’’ he said.
