A RHINOS select team is set to play against Nigeria national side in four T20 matches slated to begin on Thursday at Kwekwe Sports  Club.

Nigeria will use the series as a pre-tournament training tour before heading to Kigali, Rwanda for the International Cricket Council Men’s  T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier B.

The Yellow Greens left Nigeria last night for Zimbabwe where they will spend eight days before heading to Rwanda. The qualifiers are scheduled for December 1-10.

Rhinos select will face Nigeria twice on Thursday, in the morning as well as the afternoon while the other two matches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Nigeria will be playing against Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Eswatini, Gambia, Cameroon, Tanzania and Ghana in the regional event.

Before they left for Zimbabwe, Nigeria assistant coach, Uthe Ogbimi told the media in the West African country that they are looking at making use of the facilities in Zimbabwe.

“We are set for a tour of Zimbabwe which will give us an opportunity to play four T20 matches with clubs in the country as well as make use of their facilities,” he said.

The tour will not be the first where a Nigerian team tours Zimbabwe having had their Under-19 team come down last year to play against a Rhinos select side. Rhinos select won the series 2-1. In 2019, Rhinos once again emerged winners in a T20 series, winning the six-match series 4-2.

Rhinos confirmed the tour via a Twitter post, inviting cricket lovers from around to come and watch.

“That time again when City of Kwekwe gets into life with some sizzling cricket action, Cricket Rhinos host Cricket Nigeria in four T20 Cricket,” posted Rhinos. – @brandon_malvin
