Rhumba fans in for a treat this Saturday

Club spokesperson Fungai Mugwagwa said the whole idea was to promote rhumba music in Zimbabwe.
“Rhumba music is one genre that is popular in the country. The main objective is to take the rhumba music genre to a higher level and promote it in every part of the country. We want to quench the thirst of rhumba-starved fans. This is the first time we are handling this and we hope to its going to be a permanent feature on our calendar,” he said.

The beauty about the carnival is that it coincides with the return of popular Diamond Musica guitarist Angayi Doli popularly known as Shaka.
The fiery lead guitarist, arranger and producer who is now based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, says he was excited to be back in the country, which he described as his second home.

“It feels good to be back. I am excited to see my fans and friends after a long time ago. I am grateful for the love and I feel appreciated for the good work I did for the Zimbabwean music,” he said.

Shaka was instrumental in the release of Diamond Musica’s chart-topping album “Amaule” and he worked alongside musicians such as the late Simon Chimbetu, Tanga WekwaSando and Willom Tight, to mention a few.

However, Shaka said he was still willing to work with other musicians besides his long-time ally Pitshou Lumiere.
“I know Pitshou and we have come a long way such that he’s like a brother to me, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t work with other artistes.

“In fact, I want to record with other musicians for as long I am still here,” he said.
According to Pitshou, who has just revived Diamond Musica giving it a new image, Shaka will lay his hands on the new single “Focus” taken off their upcoming 12-track album titled “The World in Colour” due for release later this year.
