ZIM hip hop awards founder, Beefy Harrison, has urged promoters of the mega Rick Ross show to have a balanced line-up of opening acts.
A section of Zim hip hop fans launched a petition to try and have Winky D and Jah Prayzah barred from performing at the mega show.
They feel only Zim hip hop artists should be given the platform to perform.
The Zim hip hop fans have argued they have enough good local hip hop acts to open the show and still make the event successful.
They mentioned artists like Holy Ten, Voltz JT, Takura, Ti Gonzi, Saint Floew, Maskiri, Asaph, Natasha Muz, among others.
The petition triggered debate, as the interested parties in showbiz, argued that the promoter of the show would be driven by making profits.
Winky D and Jah Prayzah, they argued, were crowd pullers, compared to the hip hop artists.
However, speaking to H-Metro, Beefy said a balanced line-up for the show would do justice to the music revellers.
“I personally feel the promoter should do whatever it takes to make the event successful and that means listening to the fans and other industry heads.
“Having said so, they should balance out the acts.
“This show is too big.
“It would be nice to see a mixture of urban culture, although hip hop heads should be given a major role and a chance to shine,” he said.
Beefy said the gig would be a huge boost to local hip hop.
“It’s a big boost to the genre because we get to maximise on every opportunity that arises.
“It exposes the talent our local hip hop artists have, not only to foreign artists but other audiences,” said Beefy.
