FORMER Warriors striker Kingston Rinomhota has revealed he was rejected by lower division side Bindura United after pitching for trials without football boots.
The ex-Dynamos and CAPS United man had transferred to Chipadze High School from Shurugwi when he thought he would secure a contract at the now-defunct side.
But, without any means to buy his own boots, Rinomhota had to swallow the bitter pill before ZRP Bonanza, then in the First Division, same as Bindura United, signed him in 1991.
He would distinguish himself in a short period of time, moving to Lancashire Steel before a short loan spell at CAPS United and finally transfering to Sweden.
Nicknamed the “Cockpit”, Rinomhota eventually wrote an intriguing piece in his career playing for Dynamos and also had successful stints with Free State Stars in South Africa.
But it is the way he was treated by Bindura United that has prompted him to start an academy in the Mashonaland Central capital.
He has also been appointed the KEIZ Sport chief scout with the South Africa-based Zimbabwean-owned consultancy spreading their wings in the region.
Rinomhota said he is keen to transform lives of young people through training and scouting.
“At the moment I am doing academy work together with the likes of fellow legend Garikai Zuze.
“The academy is called Six Stars and we are determined to groom talent from this area,” said Rinomhota.
“We are accomodating several boys from disadvantaged backgrounds. I know what it means having been rejected by Bindura United and Chipadze for I had no football boots.
“I am also honoured to have been appointed the KEIZ Sport Management scout based in Zimbabwe.
“I would like to thank the director of that organisation, Kudakwashe Garufu, for giving me the opportunity to be part of their project.
“I will be scouting for talent across the country and I really cherish the role given where I came from.”
Rinomhota is a holder of a CAF C Coaching license.
KEIZ Sport director, Garufu, said the decision to appoint Rinomhota was arrived at after serious considerations.
“We believe he is capable of doing the job. We know what he has done for the country and he will be equal to the task,” Garufu.
