Rinomhota withdraws From Warriors Camp

FOR Zimbabwe, the blow has landed hard and late. Andy Rinomhota has withdrawn from the Warriors camp with immediate effect, leaving the national team short in midfield just days before the Africa Cup of Nations.

In a statement released on Friday, Rinomhota confirmed his decision, saying, “I have had to withdraw from the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team camp, effective immediately, due to an urgent family matter that requires my full personal attention.”

The withdrawal removes a player many believed could bring calm, balance and control to the centre of the pitch at a crucial stage of preparations.

Rinomhota did not hide the personal weight of the moment. “I am deeply gutted to miss out on a tournament of this magnitude. Representing Zimbabwe at the highest level has always been a source of pride,” he said.

He explained that despite his desire to be there, circumstances made it impossible to continue. “While I was fully committed to this opportunity, the timing of this family matter means I am not in the right psychological space to give the team my very best.”

The midfielder stressed that the decision was not taken lightly and reaffirmed his bond with the national side. “I remain fully committed to the national team and look forward to returning to duty once the family matter has been resolved.”

Rinomhota also sent a message of support to those heading into the tournament. “I would like to wish my teammates and the entire technical group the very best at the tournament. I will be supporting them wholeheartedly and praying that Zimbabwe goes all the way.”

His statement closed with an appeal for understanding. “I respectfully request privacy for myself and my family during this period.”

Rinomhota’s exit compounds an already sensitive midfield situation for Zimbabwe, with the Warriors now heading into AFCON short of experience and stability in central areas. Marshall Munetsi had already been left out of the squad, leaving the technical team thin in a key department.

As Zimbabwe prepare for their Group B opener against Egypt in Agadir, the loss of Rinomhota sharpens questions around balance and structure, particularly against seasoned opposition that dominates the middle of the park.

The Warriors will also face Angola and South Africa in a demanding group with little margin for error. Rinomhota’s absence removes a trusted option at the heart of the team, forcing Zimbabwe to adjust quickly as the tournament begins.
